What is New Zealand Green Lipped Mussel?
Named for the green hue at its edge, the Green Lipped Mussels aka Perna Canaliculus, are the largest type of mussel in the world, commonly found on New Zealand’s coasts.
While New Zealand Natives have known about the Green Lipped Mussels’ health benefits for a long time and have been using them for centuries, it is actually now seen worldwide as a superfood for people and pets alike due to its numerous health benefits. Full of amino acids, omega 3, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
This happens because the Green Lipped Mussel are Mollusks and act as a natural sea-water filter, able to retain a huge number of potent nutrients and minerals such as:
- Omega-3 fatty acids
- Vitamins and minerals such as zinc, copper, iodine, and manganese among others
And now, because of this, the Green Lipped Mussel is a powerful, natural joint soother that is often dried into a powder for use in supplements, Green Lipped Mussels has become a key ingredient to soothing stiff, inflamed joints.
What are the Benefits of the Green Lipped Mussel
The ultra-high levels of Omega-3 essential fatty acids (or EFAs), antioxidants, enzymes, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals contained in New Zealand Green Lipped Mussels are not found naturally in any other plant, animal, or marine life, which makes Green Lipped Mussels a unique super food, especially when it pertains to joint health.
Most pet owners have an idea of how vital omega-3 fatty acids are to their pet’s health and especially the joints, which is why they use fish oil. While fish oil has only two kinds of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA), green-lipped mussels have a third one called ETA. This is a rare form of omega-3 fatty acids which lowers the production of cyclooxygenase, an enzyme which causes inflammation. This results in less pain, less inflammation, and improved mobility for your pet.
This is why I worked so hard to create a New Zealand Green Lipped Mussel based supplement for my patients: Wellnergy Pets Hip & Joint Care
A rich source of glucosamine and chondroitin, vitamins C and E, antioxidants, and minerals such copper, zinc, and selenium, all of which are vital to your pet’s joint health. Adding a green-lipped mussel supplement into your pet’s diet will benefit your pet by:
- Naturally decreasing inflammation and pain
- Promoting cartilage regrowth and cartilage protection
- Increasing joint lubrication to improve joint stiffness
- Boosting your pet’s immunity
- Strengthening the bones
- Slowing down the progression of and preventing the development of arthritis
How soon before I see results?
In a study conducted by the Royal Veterinary College in London, on the green lipped mussel, green lipped mussel based joint supplements were proven to make a difference in pet’s activity level, pain levels, and stiffness in just 6 weeks. This means that pets taking Green Lipped Mussel supplements can get the support they need for painful, inflamed, stiff joints in a short space of time, helping them to stay healthier and happier for longer.
Incorporating Green Lipped Mussel into their diet means that your dog is benefitting from the highest strength all-natural omega fatty acid, fish oil, glucosamine, and chondroitin nutrients– why wouldn’t you do it?
I hope this blog post helps give you some insight into a new, natural, and effective way to help support your pet’s joints in the long run, and give you some more information about one of my favorite super foods: New Zealand Green lipped mussel. If you suspect your pet is dealing with severe joint issues, unresolvable with supplements alone, please take your dog to see a veterinarian.
